Program Requirements

In addition to the standard graduate student program requirements, the following 3DPTM program requirements are mandatory for all trainees:

  • Coursework – Completion of 2 interdisciplinary courses for 3DPTM graduate students:
    • 3D Printing (CHEM 588A)
    • 3D Printing Materials and Characterization (CHEM 588B)
      • requires trainees to obtain hands-on training and experience on different pieces of instrumentation relevant to 3D Printing.
  • Attendance at Monthly Seminar/Literature Discussion
  • Mentorship – Trainees are paired with a mentor from industry during their time in the program.
  • Participation at 3DPTM Retreats and Symposia
  • Graduate Student Supervision of Undergraduate Students
  • Organization and Participation in 3D Printing Outreach Activities
  • EDI Training
    • EDI Introductory Workshop
    • Additional EDI Workshops (Completion of 2 workshops required for each trainee)
  • Professional Development Workshops:
    • Project and Time Management Workshop (MITACS)
    • Additional Professional Development Courses (Completion of 4 for MSc/MASc and 6 for PhD)
      • Examples of other planned workshops for trainees include but are not limited to the following topics:
        • Finding a Job
        • Preparing Your Resume
        • Negotiation
        • Leading by Example
        • The Job Interview
        • Writing a Research Paper
        • Elevator Pitch
        • Writing a Scholarship Application
  • Internships – PhD students are required to undertake 3-6 month internships in a Canadian Company or academic lab in Asia. Internships for Masters students are not mandatory but encouraged.
